CAST is the venue for the annual AST board meeting where they had a ‘State of the AST’ presentation and we elected a new board of directors. Here are my notes

  • Members vote the directors. The directors then choose the officers from amungst themselves
  • The price structure for CAST is currently: estimated cost to run / estimated number of attendee
  • There are currently 165 active members of AST and of those 124 joined since CAST2006 which is a pretty good membership increase
  • One of the things AST provides is up to $500 (USD) for LAWST style workshops for things like airfare for trained facilitators. The reimbursment is based upon submitted reciepts
  • The general rule of thumb for accepting a paper to JAST is ‘If a paper isn’t worth reading in 10 years, what is the point of putting it in a journal?’
  • The difference between a paper being accepted for CAST vs. JAST is that a JAST paper will have more details and more references
