I had originally planned to attend Cem Kaner’s update on the Principles of Law of Software Contracts talk, but decided to go to the Lightning Talks instead because Cem posted his slides online already, it’s US not Canadian law (and yes, I know that Canadian companies will be affected, but less so), and it’s likely to dramatically change before it is passed into law by the individual states.

Bernie Berger – Interview Questions

  • Ask intentionally vague questions which are without context, unreasonable and impossible to answer
  • The one and only correct answer to them is ‘What do you mean?’
  • Shows that the candidate isn’t willing to BS their way through something they do not understand and is willing to admit when they don’t understand something
  • Example: Who cancels a bug?

Henrik Andersson – Why I Became a Certified Software Tester

  • Apparently in Europe, being certified is a pre-requisite for a lot of positions
  • And of the 5 or 6 certifications that are available, the ISTQB one is the one that matters

Bernie Berger (again) – How to run a LAWST style workshop

  1. Identify your community
  2. Is it under represented?
  3. Find a facilitator
  4. Find a venue
  5. Figure out the 3 -5 ‘key’ people you want to attend and get them on board
  6. Put out a general Call for Participation / Proposals
  7. Convince people to show up
  8. Throw a great event
  9. Do it again (but no more than twice a year to allow new idea generation)
