Mailing List Cleanup - Freek Van der Herten (Part 2)
(This is part of an open ended series of posts where I write down random things I feel are sharable from the years of mailing lists I’ve not caught up on…)
Here is Part 2 of Freek Van der Herten’s mailing list covering 2021. Usual rules apply of only reading the main links and not the ones submitted by the Community, spending an hour or rounding up for a year boundary.
Part 1 is of course also available.
- Configuration precedence when testing Laravel
- Generating unique, random-looking voucher codes – This approach / package woulda been handy when I had to do this for inside candy wrappers. When you do that, you have to also make sure that the codes you generate don’t actually spell anything l33t. (And that the printer you are sending to is competent … which opens up a whole other set of problems…)
- Why Are The Apple M1, M1 Pro And M1 Max Chips So Fast? – nerdy stuff. I think I want a Mac mini to run agents against. At least that offsets a bit of the environmental problems with AI.
- Making 1Password understand where your change password page is located – Huh. Didn’t know 1Password could do that.
- Efficient distance querying in MySQL – EiPS needs this, ish. But more like an integration with the Google Maps API for travel times.
- We Analyzed 425,909 Favicons – Fixing the EiPS favicon is on the to-do.
