Cool Things - January 21, 2026
This week’s cool things are continue to be from device housekeeping for the most part. Also, I’m sick so the usual hour timebox is likely going to last longer as I zone out here and there. Regardless, down to 983 open tabs.
From Instagram
- @lizkamlet is a great account that talks a lot about the business side of the music business. Specifically, in this reel she says that artists should have the same name (if available), same platform, and same bio across all platforms. Seems like an obvious thing now that I’ve heard it said out loud, but I hadn’t thought about that.
From Laptop
- Cloud Egress Fees: What They Are And How To Reduce Them – the ‘How can I reduce egress fees?’ is the important part. Part of managing your infrastructure is not just the actual bits, but the costs.
From Phone
- Building an eBPF/XDP L2 Direct Server Return Load Balancer from Scratch – I just use AWS ALB, but if you want to learn something, you need to build it from scratch.
- The New Calculus of AI-based Coding – This kinda summarizes one of my questions (comments?) around AI coding agents, which is that coding has rarely been the bottleneck. And now we’re amping it up even more.
- Carl Cox The Hard Dock Cafe Liverpool 91 – Old skool rave
- How to write a book – Good tips.
- Fever long backless dress – An example of how colour and pattern can completely change the look of a piece of clothing.
- Emerald Dragonfly Sheer Mesh Gown - Green – I see what they are going for, but also that print is going to lend itself to some weird body placement.
- How to Ace a Product Demo – An EiPS demo is high on February’s to-do. Question 6 hides the value.
- I kinda want The Complete Field Guide to Modern Derailment Investigation
- Watchmaking courses in Toronto
- Why John Galliano’s Astonishing Margiela Show Will Change Fashion Forever
- Revealing Citations: Citational Praxis in Neo-Burlesque Striptease – Local burlesque performer’s Ph.D thesis.
