Cool Things - February 4, 2026
It looks like we’re into 2023 on my phone as I found a bunch of links looking up my cardiologist and how the heart works. Technically there are 831 open tabs, but it is more like 800 as there are a bunch I’m keeping open for a future post.
From Laptop
- Self Published Book Launch A-Z – from 2022. But…
- Training: How to market your magazine with confidence – 10 February – If I had income, I would absolutely sign up for this. Yes, even though I don’t have a magazine.
From Phone
- Djax Your Body – 8 minute film about a record label that I followed in the 90s and would buy anything I could find from. I refound her later, but alas she went a little covid denier and I unfollowed her. Because that is what you do.
- How Uber Conquered Database Overload: The Journey from Static Rate-Limiting to Intelligent Load Management – Uber scale problems just do not sound fun to me. I guess that’s why I’ve got business degrees and not engineering ones.
- How Apple’s Find My network works: The ultimate guide – Huh.
- How do we use Terraform at Preply – an experience report
- How “Mystery Guest” Mona Patel Became One Of The Met Gala’s Best-Dressed – stunning
- What’s the meaning of the phrase ‘The life of Riley’? – and other phrases
- ‘Archive is the first book by Sofia Coppola, covering the entirety of her singular and influential career in film.’ – do I need this? Well, no…
- Present Yourself – claims ‘practical strategies for authentic and impactful public speaking.’ I just wing it. I should formally get better at it…
- How Millions of Tons Of Coke Are Produced From Coal – Inside Massive Coking Plants – I read a biography on Andrew Carnegie last year. Coke is part of making steel.
- Conan (books) – The Howard books hold up surprisingly well. If not anything even adjacent to politically correct. Fun fact – the Conan books are how I was introduced to Robert Jordan. I probably read them too young. But also meant I read Wheel of Time when it first came out as I recognized the author.
- The Five Drivers by Taibi Kahler – Another Meyers-Briggs like thing. Spoiler:
- Please Others
- Be Strong
- Hurry Up
- Try Hard
- Be Perfect
- THE ARCHITECTURE OF LITERACY: THE CARNEGIE LIBRARIES OF NEW YORK CITY. – Speaking of Carnegie. Another cool book I wouldn’t mind owning.
- History of Tether Car Racing – Tether cars are crazy
- What’s Left of New York’s Central Railroad – The St John’s Park Freight Depot is a crazy building.
- Strasburg Rail Road – Have a railcar that needs restoring? I’ve got a place for you to take it…
- Fuck This Shit Floral Wallpaper – Fully my aesthetic
- Mallakhamb Sport- History, Types, Rules, Competition, Variations – All You Need To Know – Every so often a video of this flows through my feed

- George Michael’s Freedom Video: An Oral History – Subscription required. Sorry.
- Oxide Hiring Process – When some companies say they commit to an open process, they /commit/
- How Infrastructure Works - Inside the Systems That Shape Our World – Of course this would be a great book
