Cool Things - October 25, 2026
3.5 hours later, still not done my mail. But this is what we get.
- Kamiphony by Cybèle Young – this exhibit looks neat. ‘[A] long tradition that has championed uselessness’ is a great phrase.
- Amazon Crime – Sustainability mattered. Until it didn’t.
- On the Death of Amazon’s Writing Culture – FWIW, this is a problem everywhere, not just in Amazon. Even if it wasnt as explicit a culture like there, every industry is hurting from ‘AI;DR’. When I did my grad degree all of 2 years ago, this was apparent. And its only getting worse.
- Open Source as We Know It Is Dead – “AI made contributing cheap. It didn’t make maintaining any cheaper - if anything, it made it a lot more expensive.” and not just in OSS. I’m incredibly picky what I merge into some repos I am responsible for because of this. (And other reaons.)
- We’re going to need default hard budget caps on pretty much everything – Yes. Hard caps on /everything/.
- RemoveMacAI – No, I don’t need native AI crap in my OS. Guess I should actually upgrade first.
- WebMCP – Hrm. WebMCP is almost intersting. Except, you know, WebKit doesn’t want to play nice.
- Subscribers Pay. Members Participate. Here Is the Difference in Practice – The nuance in how the word ‘audience’ can be split is important.
- Clay’s new doc policy is good. But only published on Twitter. Boo on them. Remember when corporate blogs were a thing?
- You must stand behind every idea and sentence
- Writing is thinking
- More time should be spent writing a document than consuming it
- Longer is not better
- How to write a cold email – quite good.
- The full[er] clip The Orb sampled. Also, it is Levar Burton?!!?
